How To Look Your Best When Meeting Your Christian Online Dating PartnerWhen dating Christians online, there are a lot of things working to your advantage. For example, the other person never really sees you, so you don't have to bother with appearances. You can devote all your energy towards being intelligent and witty. But when you're actually seated in front of a person, there are a thousand things you need to pay attention to. Some people believe that it's not really important to keep up appearances. They feel that it's more important to be oneself. It sounds good enough. But first dates are crucial. The other person should not feel ashamed to be seen with you for any reason. Let's start with your physical appearance. While you don't have to be dressed to kill, it's very important to appear well groomed. Pay special attention to things like nails, hair, and teeth. Check for bad breath too-a complete turn off. Your clothes should not be loud and attract the wrong kind of attention. Choose something that you're comfortable in and looks good on you. Ladies, please be careful about your make-up, and remember that make-up is meant to accentuate your looks, not hide them. It's best to avoid garish colors. And men, if you're not sure about what kind of clothes makes you look your best, ask a sister or lady friend. They'll gladly tell you what's flattering and what isn't. You should smell nice too, but don't over do it. You don't want you to leave a lasting impression based solely on your cologne choice. Go very lightly on the cologne or perfume. For men, masculine scents like musk are very subtle and work nicely. Women, keep it as light and dainty as possible. Creating a favorable impression with your appearance is one thing. But there is something equally or even more important than that-making the other person feel comfortable. Yes, you've been chatting for quite some time and already know a great deal about each other, but a person-to-person meeting can still evoke nervousness. Ease the tension and break the ice by cracking a joke or two. Nothing melts an uncomfortable situation faster than a smile and a laugh. But the joke should be spontaneous and in keeping with the situation or else it will fall flat. Don't rehearse because a rehearsed joke sounds…well…rehearsed. The key word here is charm. Use all the charm you can muster. Be as considerate and as thoughtful as possible. Don't dominate the conversation; try to get the other person talking. Ask about their work. Show interest in what they're saying. Be a good conversationalist. A good conversationalist is a person who not only talks well, but listens well too. And while you're listening don't get distracted by something else. They might feel you're losing interest in what they're saying. Worst case scenario part 2: At some point, you may find yourself with someone who totally dominates a conversation. What do you do? Listen patiently for a minute or two, and then give a subtle sign like a raised eyebrow or a smile. If the other person is intelligent enough, he or she will get the cue. If not, then you might want to ask yourself if you really want to listen to this person for the rest of your life. When making someone feel comfortable, remember: Humor rarely fails. But again, don't over do it. If there's one thing worse than a total lack of humor, it's too much humor. |
